- No-slip collar for walking (usually SMALL) (search for Martingale, Limited Choke Collar or No Slip). This is one of the few styles of collars that a Shiba cannot back out of. Good brands are Lupine, Premier. MSIR now sells Lupine gear, please visit our Shiba Shoppe. Profits go to save more Shibas!
- Leather roll collar—prevents matting of the neck fur
- Identification Tag with at least 1, but preferably 2, phone numbers.
- TWO leashes (always have a backup!) We do not recommend flexi-leashes! We recommend high-quality leather leashes as they are less likely to break. However, you might also purchase an inexpensive leash for the dog to use as a floor-cord inside.

- RAW bones (NO cooked!) for teeth-cleaning; e.g. soup bones/knuckles (available at supermarkets).
- NO rawhides for dogs under a year - they can cause diarrhea.
- Undercoat rake or shedding brush (many people like the Furminator)
- Everyday brush
- Nail clippers, styptic powder (optional, you may choose to use a professional)
