Yuuko (pronounced Yu-Ew-Co), is Japanese is for Brave Girl. Yuuko is an unfortunate victim of commercial breeding. However, she is a feisty, petite Sesame Shiba who is not afraid of anything. She weighs around 17 pounds. She has all her shots, and has been spayed and microchipped.
In her foster home she has been exposed to other dogs and cats. She does fine with adult cats, but needs to be monitored around kittens due to a mild predator instinct. She does well with small and large dogs. But can be assertive and vocal. She has some issues around toys, food and her kennel. But her aggressiveness is well controlled with a firm low tone, and if necessary a finger snap. Her territorialness is sporadic and being spayed has tempered her very noticeably.
She has been given free roam of the house with all the animals. She has a kennel and her own room, in which she chooses to spend most of her time. She does well on a leashed harness. Sometimes when she doesn't want to follow, she will spin around on the lead. I have seen no evidence of fence climbing, but she does like to dig.
Yuuko has been exposed to a variety of people in a variety of situations. She is always lovable, friendly and curious. She does well in a car, unpenned. Not much makes her nervous. And I have seen no agression towards humans, even in regards to food, toys, etc.
During vetting no signs of deformities or genetic problems were found. Her fur is a little wiry. But her hair has improved immensely with a good, steady diet.
She is learning to run and play. She likes toys and treats. She also likes to chew on paper, but nothing else. She is very treat motivated and very smart. She likes to dance on her legs when excited. I think she is very trainable. The only thing I have seen that makes her nervous is quickly raising a hand to pet her while towering over her, and cats.
Yuuko is part of a breeding pair. Her mate is Kei. I would highly reccomend they be adopted together if possible. I worry that if she was seperated from him she might have anger management issues. Even though they each have their own kennels, the choose to sleep together. And when seperated they are noticeably uncomfortable and seeking the other.
I would not reccomend Yuuko go to a home where there are small children, agressive dogs, or to people with hectic households. Yuuko has only had a handful of accidents in the house. She is vocal when she is hungry or needs to potty.
Yuuko is a very lovable and precious little girl. She has had a hard life, but she is very spirited and happy. Yuuko will make a perfect addition to a furever home with attention and love to spare.
The adoption fee for Yuuko is $200 Please refer to the MSIR website for more information on the application and adoption process.
NOTE: DUE TO THE BREED'S INDEPENDENT NATURE, SHIBAS SHOULD ALWAYS BE LEASHED WHENEVER THEY ARE OUTSIDE OF A SECURELY FENCED AREA. IN ADDITION, MANY SHIBAS ARE DOOR BOLTERS AND CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN AROUND DOORS AND OTHER ESCAPE POINTS.
